If you use CR8.5 directly through ASP code, the report engine still handles the licensing for you (i.e. it enforces the 5 CAL limit or however many licenses you have purchased), but you will need to write code to handle "no more licenses" exceptions.

Hi Milton,
Yes - a clear display of bias there - but to be fair I am registered as a vendor ;-)
I think you hit the nail squarely on the head when you say that CC and CE are targetted at different markets. CE is aimed at the corporate space and is designed to be an infrastructure - providing...
Dave makes a good point here...
As both Crystal Reports and Crystal Enterprise are released by Crystal Decisions, they will remain in synch with new releases. With Crystal Clear - if they have truly reverse engineered the file format then there will be a lag time if the file formats change...
Hi All,
I've just had a look at the Crystal Clear web site and unless I'm reading it wrong, one of the big differences between it and Crystal Enterprise is that Crystal Clear is a fat client solution - i.e. the client must have the VOYA viewer component loaded onto their PC - either as an...
Hi All,
Wow - this must be one of the most active threads on this site!! ;-)
Firstly, there was a posting earlier inquiring about the edition of CR included with VS.NET. You can find a detailed description of the licensing for this edition at...
Hi Ken,
You are spot on... the distinction is based on where the CR print engine is instantiated.
For a client application, the necessary RDC DLLs (most often craxdrt.dll) are running on the client PC so this is where the "report processing" takes place. Even if the RPT file is...
Hi gjgrosso,
Your complaint that you now have to pay for >5 users in CR8.5 whereas it used to be free in CR8 is not correct.
If you read the license agreement for CR8 you will find the exact same license restrictions - you can build and deploy fat client applications to unlimited customers...
Hi Vishal,
You can apply a selection formula to a report object (including a report instance) by adding a selection formula on the URL:
http://myserver/.../viewrpt.cwr?objectid=123&SF={Customer.City}='Melbourne'
I guess you would need to determine what the selection formula is based on...
Contact your local Crystal Decisions office and speak to their presales staff - they would be happy to assist you in sizing a CE environment.

Hi Vishal,
The behavious of alerts in CE is different to the behavious in the CR designer.
In CE, you can see the alerts by clicking on the "Alerts" button on the top menu bar in ePortfolio. Alerts are only triggered on reports that are scheduled...
So you need to:
1. Create a...
You can apply a selection formula to a report instance and it will filter the results. For example, I could schedule a report to contain sales data for the whole world and view it as:
http://myserver/viewrpt.cwr?objectID=nnn...
If you want to filter this information, simply append a selection...
Hi Ynnx,
You can find information about Crystal Analysis Pro on the Crystal Decisions web site at:
http://www.crystaldecisions.com/products/crystalanalysispro
You use CAP to create interactive OLAP reports and then publish them to the web using Crystal Enterprise. The web client provides a...
You have written the formula in Basic Syntax, so you must be using CR8 or CR8.5
Are you using SI7 or SI7.5? If you are using SI7 this won't work as the version 7 print engine does not recognise basic syntax. Try rewriting your formula in Crystal syntax and see if this fixes the problem...
As Chadlmc states, comparing CR and BO is not comparing apples with apples...
Crystal Reports provides a much more capable report writer than BO - the learning curve is much lower and as it does not require the initial setup of the meta-layer you can get to work much faster. Also, as it is used...
The printing limitations in the Java viewer are due to limitations in the Java print model. As for the logger.asserts file - as Nuffsaid points out there is a patch for this. Contact Crystal tech support to obtain it.
