I'm needing the wisdom of the net.
I have a small shop of 5 RHEL 3.0 systems that I need to set up for backups.
I need something temporary because the department is evaluating CA BrightStor, Veritas NetBackup, IBM Tivoli, and CommVault for an enterprise-wide solution to be implimented next...
I want to monitor and verify that MySQL is still alive and healthy.
We have WhatsUp Gold (http://www.ipswitch.com/products/whatsup/). WhatsUp Gold (WUG) can be configured to monitor any TCP port by doing a TCP 3-way handshake. I know MySQL is listening on port 3306.
I am wondering is this a...
I have a MAX 6000 running TOS 9.0.2 (tik.m60). I have two PRIs feeding it on the WAN side. It supposedly has K56 modems in it. But the highest connection most people get is 28800. Once in a blue moon, some one will connect at a higher speed (38600).
I understand that I'll never see 56Kbps. But...
I have Red Hat 9 installed. The sendmail RPM available for RH9 is sendmail-8.12.8-9.90. The latest patch is 8.12.11 which includes a very signifcant security patch at 8.12.10.
I am a little scared of downloading the latest & greatest source and hand compiling it. Sendmail is such a huge beast...
I have a ET05 and EG2S S4000 DSS boxes running 4.3.5 and XP.
They are connected to our network through Cisco 4006 running IOS 12.1. Apparently, the Switch Expert configs, even though they say they are for "IOS", is obviously for CatOS.
It looks like the Cisco 3548 switch configs are for IOS...
I want to look on my network for any rogue wireless access points.
Could not I look for the Manf. ID in the MACs for common AP manufactures (LinkSys, Cisco, etc)?
Has anyone a list of the Manf. IDs of APs?

How can I disable direct root login from telnet on RedHat 6.0?
I know I can put /bin/false as the root user shell in /etc/passwd but that would disable even console root login. I want to disable being able to telnet to the system and logging in as root directly. Of course, I want to still be...
What has been everyone's experience with non-Cisco memory in routers?
We need to migrate to 12.2 and have many routers that need more flash and RAM. Crucial (http://www.crucial.com/) and Kingston (http://www.kingston.com/) offer memory for Cisco routers. Cisco's prices are like 10X their...

I've recently obtained a new job here. I'm running into a lack of understanding of how Cat-5 cables need to be handled to safely run 100Mbps. Layer 1 problems can be a PAIN to troubleshoot!
I am looking for some training material / documentation on catagory 5 specifications. I'm looking for not...
We have finally received our first DSS boxes (S4000s)! It's a great day!
I was wondering about peoples experience with using remote control software on their DSS.
We have DameWare (www.dameware.com) to remotely control Windows machines. It is similar-yet-different to PC Anywhere.
Would I...
