I am not entirely new to SQL, however in my new position I access as/400 tables through SQL query analyzer. Sometimes, I query directly through the as/400, but there a few issues such as limits on what I can do with the data and it dropping signs from my currency fields. (If my query has...
I have to update values on the server from records on an excel spreadsheet.
I know how to do the update statement, however I do not know how to read the excel records. I could even save this as another file type (.txt, etc.) if need be.
Anyone know how to use an external flat file as a table??
I can't believe I may be in this position...
If you had to choose between these two jobs, what would you choose?
#1. Large company, well-known. The position is high stress working as 1 of 20 other people who do the same thing you do. Pay is good. You would be trained. Good potential for...
I've done a little review of extreme programming, but haven't really spoken to many people who have worked with this kind of methodology.
Has anyone had experience working or managing a project through extreme programming? How did that project go? What did you like/not like about it?
I have a database that another location copies and places on their file server.
When they copy it over, the odbc timeout of 600 is reset to 120 and my users can't run the report.
Has anyone else had this problem? Anyone know of a fix?
Thanks!!
How does MS get away with it?!?!
I purchased a 2005 version to update from my 2004 trial. 2004 worked great! I couldn't get anything done in 2005. Essentially I bought a non-working product.
I thought it might just be me, but I checked online newsgroups and everyone is having problems...
Just wanted to test the water...
Has anyone looked at the job market in IT as of late? I was just browsing through Monster yesterday and noticed a bunch of analyst/programmer jobs available. Much better than last time I checked.
Anyone else watching the market via job postings?
(BTW I'm in AZ)
In a thread recently, we got on the subject of barriers women have faced in the workplace. Someone had mentioned a seperate forum, however I also agree with some that this would be creating a barrier. So rather than seperating ourselves further, why don't we discuss it in this thread?
Some...
Okay, so I got something in the mail the other day stating that someone was settling with Microsoft in a class action suit because MS charges too much for their products. In return, if I signed up, I could vouchers for MS products in th amount of about $5 a product.
So a friend and I thought...
Recently someone brought up a couple of issues with IT customers. I thought maybe I could get some good responses on how other handle the following:
Users berating themselves for asking a stupid question, making a mistake, etc...
What is a good way to make your customers understand that first...
I have been put in charge of my first project with team members and the project has been going pretty well. However I just took a week of vacation and feel that things may have run a little more smoothly while I was gone. My team members did not meet and a big key decision was made without...
Okay, I've seen a lot of postings about this. Let me put out some interesting articles from some serious resources about the issue:

Do you have any odd habits while working and how do you overcome them?
For instance, I mumble to myself when I code. I am pretty much oblivious to everything too. So now when I code, I out on some headphones. This lets everyone know that I'm working and to wait a second before interrupting...
Okay, I admit the title is a little too much, but here's my question:
I was just reading an article about the IB (honors) students being a bit snobbish to the regular students at high schools. I couldn't help but compare this to IT professionals and our customers.
I must admit I've fallen...
Has anybody had this happen?
I have two stored procedures pretty close in code to each other.
Both were returning errors when I ran them from Access in a pass-through query. The error stated something like unable to convert char to datetime.
I checked my code and didn't have any instance...
It's kind of sad if you think about it. I saw a posting earlier about a woman who was almost relieved if the company laid her off, stating that her loyalty had diminished from what it was last year. It amazes me that companies have the audacity to complain that workers have no layalty to the...
I am converting my ACCESS queries to SQL stored procedures.
I have one query, in ACCESS, that uses the FIRST function. In essence it takes the first occurance of one field based on a grouping of another.
e.g.
FIRST OCCURANCE FOR
10/20/2003 BILL SMITH
10/23/2003 JOE SCHMOE...
I am relatively new to the field. I currently work as a Business Analyst/DB programmer. My work is mostly with SQL, Access/VBA, Excel, and possibly in the future VB and HTML/JAVA/ASP.
Mostly I analyza data, create databases and reports for all areas of the company.
Now that I'm settled in...
I need to create a query to return 5% of all items matching a certain critera. e.g.
5% of records for Joe on 10/16
5% of records for Jane on 10/16
5% of records for Bob on 10/16
I'm fairly green when it comes to sql. I know how to use TOP N PERCENT and I know how to create temp tables in a...
