The multiview unit should be a PII 400 mhz. I have several that are PII's. It will support 4.1.048 if it is a PII 400 mhz. You may want to upgrade the memory but it is mandatory to run the software.
With 4.7 the buffer size is 50% of available physical memory. Which means if I have 1000 Meg total and 512 after the os and programs load, then I can set a capture buffer of 256 meg of ram.
How did you image the units? If you used Remote update, the console machine should have been at NT 4.0 SP 6a or Win2k Sp2. If not some wierd things will occur, like this. The other method to upgrade a unit is to completely uninstall all the agent sooftware at the agent, remove all the registry...
Unfortunately, Snifer Voice 2.0 does not install on 4.7. It will work with Sniffer Voice 2.1. If you are using VOIP 2.0 you should not uograde to 4.7. Sniffer Voice only works on SnifferPro 4.5, today.
I apologize for the incorrect info on reporter. The current reporter version is 4.0. It will install with SnifferPro 4.5 which works on win 2k. Sniffer voice will not work on 4.6 only on 4.5.
Make sure that the sniffer driver is bound to the nic card. If it is not then follow the instructions below. When I have seen this before I had to uninstall sniffer. Delete the regristry settings by going to regedt32 and changing the permissions for the subkey network associates inc, under...
Choose the "other router/bridge" option. Also try the autodiscovery mecahnism to detect the wan encapsulation. If that does not do it then it may be neccessary to also enable protocol forcing to properly decode the frames.
You have discovered the wonderful world of Microsoft networking. The first frame was a Wins request. This is very common in large microsoft environments. The second frame was a browser announcement. Windows devices issue browser announcements at regular intervals all the time. However, they do...
SnifferPro has all the functionality of Distrubuted Sniffer minus the ability to collect Rmon data for baselining and built in reporting. SnifferPro along with Reporter (which is an add on for SnifferPro) will allow you to do short term rmon like reports. The biggest difference in the two...
Wins no response is a symptom that is given when the sniffer does not see a response from the wins server. This can be caused by many things, but the most usual is when the sniffer is on a switch port and is only seeing broadcast traffic. In this scenario the wins request goes out at a broadcast...
To filter on a particular network you will need to do a pattern match. I have found it best to set the format to binary and set the len field to the network portion of an IP address. You will have to do this for every network you want to filter on. Also, when you create a new profile for this...
The only apporved nics for the sniffer are the ones that are sold by NAI. The card is a Xircom CBE1 (Card bus adapter) or the CBE2 for laptops.
Be sure you have the exact card as these are the only cards that the enhanced drivers are written for. Without the enhanced drivers you may be able to...
If you are trying to measure and benchmark the response time of the application from the clients viewpoint, put the sniffer between the client and the router. If you are trying to benchmark the response time between the router and proxy, place the sniffer there. If you are trying to benchmark...
Could you please send me a trace of the annex-g protocol?
I would really appreciate it.
Cmraynor@bellsouth.net
Sniffer is a protocol analyzer. It is a very powerful tool, that looks at network traffic at all layers of the OSI model and decodes the information so you can troubleshoot network related problems.
If you create a new capture profile and choose to copy settings from the sample profile IP Node<>Subnet. This is a good starting proint. Just modify the sample pattern match with your IP information. Capture menu, Define Filter, New Profile, Copy sample profile (instead of default), IP...
