Had a raid crash not so long ago and had to recover the priv.edb. While this was being done an old backup was put in its place.
I shifted the recovered edb which had been corrupted with a dirty shutdown to a different server and ran eseutil hard repair on and defrag on it. I need to run...

Sorry I'm having a brain fart here.
Have gone to do a total system restore using the recovery partition on a mates laptop as he has some massive problems.
Half way through the recovery (while the system was auto formatting C drive), stonking great big blue screen of death has occured.
Because...
Tried pulling the network cable out on 2 of the machines over night, and low and behold, they didnt boot up. Both machines have WOL turned off.
Very bizarre.
I think I'm going for haunted building
Machines are fully powered down, not in sleep mode.
Have checked 4 of the 10 effected machines and WOL is turned off. Cant see any Bios setting telling them to wake up either.
Life is mystery...... but this is just chuffin confusing. Time for the secret...
Anyone else come across this lately.
Round about 3:54 am, There are about 15 workstations in my office booting up on their own.
No WOL requests being sent out, no automatic updates enabled for that time, just a series of XP pro machines booting up all on their own.....
Cant figure out...
I have 5.5 and the databses have gone by bye, so i need to use eseutil to do a hard fix of the databases. This means the db's will be down for a about 10 hours. While thats running is it conceivable to install a second instance of exchange on another nt4 box just so i can enable some users to...
Yea I see what you mean. In fairness as someone said previously, its a shared resource, not a shared network, which makes me wonder where sbs decided to pull its IP from....
You may have gathered from my lack of knowledge of the infrastructure that its not my network...its a friend of mines...
again i think your struggling to see the tongue in cheek irony of coming on a forum full of network guru's/consultants asking for help from them and then making the above statement. I'll give up.
But thanks all for the advice and help. Is much appreciated.
I'm hoping the majority will have seen the wuss's comment for what it was...very much tongue planted in cheek.
Sorry for the offence if you feel offended.
Cheers for the advice guys, have already restarted the installation from scratch and have disconnected it from the shared network...
cheers for the feedback. I'll give it a go. Network consultants are for wuss's...hands on is the way forward. :).....if all else fails there's always google.
Cheers
.p.s. yea your right about 2003.....i'm an NT4 boy :)
Have just purchased a new windows sbs 2003 server. When running through the setup, the person running it selected "use existing network" which was wrong as we are setting up a new network from scratch. Its obtained the IP from the network in the office next door as we are using a shared network...
Sorry if this sounds like a numpty question but i need to somehow compact/ defrag the databases in Exchange 5.5.
Database is getting rather large and i'm guessing there's a lot of redundant space in there from old deleted users etc. How do i do this.
Can it be done online or will I have to put...
your right it would have helped if i had mentioned the OS....but your also right about it being windows firewall.....boy do i feel stupid.
Thanks for the help peeps.
:)
I have an NT4 box running exchange 5.5. The machines used to be win98 machines running office 97, and i have never had a problem with mail delivery.
I have recently upgraded the machines to new ones running xp, and either office 97 or 2000, but a problem has arisen. It would seem mail is...
got a slight problem with one or 2 mailboxes in a delay in delivering mail.
Using eschange server 5.5 and have outlook 97 on client machines. One or 2 users dont receive their email on time, about 5 minute delays, even internal ones. I have tried swapping machines and even deleting and...
