    Word 2010 Mirror Margins by section not working

    OK, thanks for confirming that this doesn't work as expected. I suppose we could save the sections as separate files, also. Cheers, Dave

    Word 2010 Mirror Margins by section not working

    I have a document that is intended to be printed front and back. Mirror margins works fine for this, and we have done this for a long time. However, there is one section of the document that we want to print as "normal" - front only. When I apply the Normal page setup to THIS SECTION, it...

    Burning DVD on a Mac

    I had a similar problem with optical drive on my HP laptop. I was completely convinced it was a hardware problem and so was HP tech support who issued me an RMA for warranty return/repair. Before mailing it back, I decide to try booting a Linux Live CD. It worked fine. So..... I kept going...

    Win client can't open shares on Linux

    You can use option -R to chmod recursively down through the sub-directories. Google man chmod. But make sure you start down at the highest directory you actually want to change. It won't ask you twice.

    Office 2007 rendering issue

    I agree with stefanwagner - I don't think you'll will have much luck with your approach for anything except basic text. I can take the same Word document and print to different printers and see a lot of differences even in Windows. If it is a final document, a better (but not perfect)...

    Ubuntu, start up error, Help?

    I don't know the answer, but a Google search turned up this bug notice: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-ati/+bug/569372 I would suggest unplugging the DVI connection to the TV - simplify the system as much as possible and see if you can get it to boot.

    Install local copy of php

    It would help if you tell us the type of operating system. PHP only works in conjunction with the web server software, so you need to take that into consideration. If you are just wanting a test platform for development, it might make more sense to set up a local system with Apache, mySQL and...

    some help for a beginner??

    Package management is a key feature of all distributions. If you are just starting out, you'd be well off to use the standard packages provided with your distribution and install using the intended software. I know nothing about Mint, but the Debian apt package management system is one of the...

    Apple Laptop for iPhone dev?

    This might have something to help: http://developer.apple.com/iphone/index.action I'd say any new Apple machine could handle the development system.

    Alternative to MS offerings;

    You might start here: http://www.aboutdebian.com/ There are a lot of resources on using Linux servers. For use in a Windows environment, search for "samba servers" or something similar. The documentation for Samba at www.samba.org is pretty good as well. If your users share files that...

    Alternative to MS offerings;

    We have similar network, with about 8 Windows XP/Vista machines, and several network printers. We replaced our old Windows 2000 server about 18 months ago with a new box running Debian Linux. The server is configured as a standalone server in Samba - no Active Directory. We use the Linux...

    Search for wireless

    I don't see a wireless interface in ifconfig. Take a look in /etc/network/interfaces and also look in lsmod to see if there is a module being loaded for your wireless NIC. You may need to do some research on how to get this card running under Linux...

    Search for wireless

    Look at output of ifconfig (as root). The reference to wlan0 indicates the system thinks it has a wireless interface. That is a positive sign. You should also look at lspci (or lsusb if usb dongle), to see what drive is being loaded if any. Do you have a graphical interface (Gnome or KDE)...

    Any way to "fix" a USB drive to recover contents?

    You might try taking the hard drive out of the USB case and installing it directly in your PC. Many of these USB drives have power supply issues. If you do this, you may also be able to run low-level diagnostics that are not available on a USB-connected drive.
