Hi -
I am attempting to add an IBM X40 laptop running Windows XP Pro to a Windows 2000 Server domain. I have created a computer object in active directory and I've named the laptop appropriately. Every time I attempt to join the laptop to the domain, I receive the following error:
"Logon...
Fun things we do at work:
1) Nerf wars.
2) Kidnap stuffed animals from offices/cubicles (complete with mailed ransom notes -- we want chewy sweet tarts -- and threatening voicemails).
3) Make grilled cheese sandwiches en masse for lunch (tomato soup, too)
4) Make prize-fight posters between...
Another popular tutorial (now available in book form if you prefer dead-tree format) is the Rute User's Guide and Exposition:

Thanks for the info. I'd looked at Cisco's site, but I guess I never got to the part detailing the user licenses. The info you've provided will definitely let me make an informed decision.
Thanks again!
Don
Thanks tbissett --
I guess I've been thrown off by the user-licenses issue. Am I to understand that I can have as many folks poking around on the Internet from behind the PIX as I want (as long as their combined number of connections doesn't exceed 7500), but only 10 of them can be on the VPN...
In all honesty, if you're the right type of person, I'd take you over someone with certifications coming out their ears. What's the right type of person? Someone who thinks hard, works hard, is honest, persistent, and will look out for the business's best interests.
If you take your work...
Hi All -
Our supervising unit has decreed that we must move from our current Linux-based solution to a Cisco PIX for security on our broadband connections. There's been some question on whether I need to purchase a PIX 501 or a 506.
My setup is ~125 PCs sharing a symmetric DSL connection to...

Sorry folks. Guess the earlier thinkgeek posting slipped below my (admittedly weak) radar. As far as Frys being on line, I believe that they've merged with outpost.com.
For that, you can take a look at http://www.outpost.com. Hopefully that serves as penance for the thinkgeek post. :)

Sorry to join in late, but if you're looking for tech toys, http://www.thinkgeek.com is worth a look. They have gift certificates and I can't think of a geek who wouldn't be able to find something they liked there....

Don
Okay folks -
Here's the scoop. After making a few phone calls to the tech people higher up in my organization, this was the solution:
Assign all users full rights to the entire \Program Files\Lotus folder. A bit more of a shotgun approach than I was looking for, but the user's up and running...
Hi pinkjambu -
Thanks for the response.
I've tried elevating the user to administrator permissions, installing, and things run fine. After I drop them back to user permissions, I get the same error.
I've double-checked the shortcut, as well as going into the program directory and opening the...
Hi everyone -
I'm trying to install Client 6.0 on a workstation running Windows 2000 Professional (SP2, SRP1). When I install the client using the administrator account, I'm able to run Notes without incident. When I try to run Notes from the end-user's account (User privileges), I get the...
I agree completely with heyitsthephoneguy. Never "fake" anything. You should definitely be honest, because you can dig yourself into a pretty big hole by faking it.
On another front, I agree with Albion and others who argue that you shouldn't say that you don't have the confidence to...
Hi Krystoff -
You might consider taking a course in Access SQL programming from the HTML Writer's Guild:
http://www.hwg.org/services/classes
If you're not a member, I think it runs around $100 and it takes 6 weeks. It's not high-level training, but it provides a structure that works to get...
Thanks for the suggestion salserocito. One of the switches had been running that card previously, so I'm confident its firmware was okay.
In the end, I got a new fiber card and that did the trick. Sure wish there'd been a cheaper out, though.
Don
Hi all -
I've run into a problem that I hope has a (relatively) inexpensive answer: I swapped a 100 base-fx single fiber module (3C16970) from a 24-port Superstack II 3300 with a 100 base-fx dual fiber module (3C16971) from a 12-port Superstack II 3300.
The single fiber module works like a...
This sounds a bit like a known issue with Novell Client 4.8 in which users are presented with multiple login dialogues. Maybe the settings are different between the laptop and the other Win2K machine?
You might give this a try (this resolves the multiple login issue with client 4.8 -- I can't...
You could also take a look at Mozilla (www.mozilla.org). You can set it up not to display unrequested browser windows (i.e., pop-ups). You can choose the setting by going into: Edit > Preferences > Advanced > Scripts and Windows > Open Unrequested Windows (from memory; forgive any errors!).
I...
