An error occurred while initalizing MAPI 1

I'm having trouble exporting email messages utilizing Outlook Express... I get the messaage: "The export could not be performed" An error occurred while initializing MAPI. I have compacted all folders and still cannot get the export feature to work. I have no problems exporting my address book. I have looked on the Microsoft Web-Site for 2 days now with no luck.

Any help with this problem will be greatly appreciated.
