Backup voicemail pro using email other than IIS

Has anyone been successful configuring a Backup Voicemail Pro using email server other than IIS? Customer has VMPro on Win7Pro machines, and Win7 no longer supports IIS SMTP service. We're trying to use hMail and are struggling to bring it home.

You could install the linux version.
This has SMTP and works very nice.

Linux version would be a breeze, except customer uses these machines for the occasional "other task" - mostly remote access. Hence, using something other than Windows isn't an option for them.

Then i would not use this machines as a vmpro backup machine!
Too much other stuff on it that can create problems.
