We are using a DSL modem/router connected to a hub and the router is acting as a DHCP server. However, throughout the day, random clients on the hub lose internet connectivity for a few seconds to a few minutes.
Are there any settings I can tweak or any troubleshooting tips?
Thanks. ~Apex1x

Do you have a static IP from your Internet Service Provider?
This may help but it will cost you extra DougP, MCP

How does a static IP help?
We get a dynamic address I believe. ~Apex1x

Most DSL providers have dynamic ip's assigned that timeout rather quickly (5-15 mins) so when no one is accessing the internet the connection closes down. Then someone makes a request and you have to wait until your router reconnects to get the info you want. That's why you may want to try and get a static IP or configure your router to keep that connection alive.

Ok. Thanks.
However, I'll be accessing the internet fine, then out of nowhere the connection fails and I cannot access web pages for a few seconds to a few minutes.
Any other ideas would be appreciated. ~Apex1x

When it fails for a few minutes, can you ping the outside world? Sounds like a dns issue. How long has this been going on? Glen A. Johnson

Its been going on since we've had this DSL service installed. I dont recall this happening with the old dial up server but it was configured a little different.
As far as DNS, the settings are the same as with the dial up so I'm not sure.
Any ways I can troubleshoot this further?
And no, I cannot ping the outside world during the lockup time.

I would contact your isp or whoever installed the connection. I lose my connection periodically, but it's hardware. I go into the back, turn off the gateway, count to ten and turn it back on, and we're running. Since your's comes back on it's own, I would look to software. Glen A. Johnson

Now that you mention it, a couple of times the internet has failed and would refuse to come on. During this time, the modem/router would not even recognize being connected to the hub.
I've contacted the techincal support for the service but they gave me the runaround.
I've posted in the Novell Netware 5 forum regarding some connectivity issues with the network and now I'm starting to think the two are related.

The setup we have is one server (one NIC) connected to a hub, and on this hub there is another hub connected as well as the dsl modem/router.

This is the thread I started a while back and still havn't gotten to the bottom :(

thread75-342860 help/tips would be very welcome. ~Apex1x
