Questions have come up recently about database usage and also general questions on how to or what to use. Along with those questions I've seen a few poorly thought up processes using the wrong data area for the wrong needs. Due to all of this I've posted a FAQ that should help get everyone get going in the correct direction.

With the help of members listed in the FAQ I've posted a list of free database servers that anyone can download and use. These are mostly limited to a few gig of data but from what I've seen on most instances that is more then enough to meet the needs at hand. The DB's cover all platforms so there shouldn't be concerns of if your needs can be met by a real db server.

Please add to this thread is any other free db's are not listed and should be.

You forgot Access and Excell 2 of my favorite db's. And XML.

as long as you use the odbc/oledb to connect to it it's free just like access.

Ah, you mean .XLS files - it sounded as if you meant Excel. In the same way as you can work with .MDB files using odbc. The OP was producing a (very useful) list of database servers rather than list of file formats that odbc can read. Neither of these solutions sound like a database server solution to me. You can of course also use odbc to access .CSV files and plain text files, but they won't make very good database servers either.
