How about a vote for the most annoying feature in Windows XP Pro. I just had to reboot my computer becuase I accidentally held down the SHIFT key for 8 seconds and it activated this accessability option called Filter Keys. It said that it had truned Filter Keys ON and if I wanted to turn OFF, just hit canel which I did.

I was then locked in a mode where my CAPs lock key was actually reversed (caps with Caps lock off; lower case with caps lock on). Other weird things were happeing with my keyboard that made it seem like the computer thought that the shift key had been locked in a pressed mode.

Is there any way to disable this extremely annoying feature permanently? I was able to disable the shortcut (SHIFT for 8 seconds) within the Control Panel, but it apppears that once it is activated, your toast.

Have you bothered to read the reponse posted to your other post on this problem?

After I made the other post, I reboooted my computer, came right back to the forum and created a thread with a title that I thought was more appropriate to the topic, since my last post was in response to a topic of "All Caps".

Anyway, I am still not sure that I have disabled it. First of all, when the problem happened, I went to Accessibility ooptions and Filter Keys was not even checked. All I did was go to settings and disabled the shortcut (SHIFT, 8 seconds). The problem never cleared until I rebooted.

I just want to make sure that with the settings I have, this won't happen again. I cannot reboot this system often as it is controlling a critical manufacturing process.

If you have taken the second step, Settings, and removed the shortcut key and the warning notice, it will be done with.

These particular parts of the registry are only read at boot/logon.
