Using these three functions in Delphi 3 I am trying to benchmark performance variations between a Paradox table (searching only on primary and secondary indices) and a dBaseIV table (searching a maintained, single-field, non-expression index) on a LAN. I have exhaustively tested all three search methods on indexed fields of both table types and found expected results with one exception. I cannot get the Locate function (recommended over FindKey in Delphi Help System) to even come close to the speed of the other functions. I understand that Lookup doesn't position the cursor in the table which may explain its super-fast performance, but shouldn't Locate on a field with an index perform as fast as FindKey on the same field?
