This has just happened recently, without any major system changes.
I need to create a Null Session Share on a server. This is done by adding the existing share name to the registry Key\Value:
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver\parameters - REG_MULTI_SZ Value is "NullSessionShares" and the data are the share names.
With REG_MULTI_SZ values, the data is not easily viewable with regedit, regedt32 must be used to enter and modify data.
Now here's my problem:
The values under the above key display fine under regedit. Under regedt32, the key displays, but no values appear under it.
If I try to create an existing value (like 'nullsessionshares'), it says the value allready exists.
If I try to create a new value (say, 'test' with data of 'test'), regedt32 immediately exits, but the value is created.
I have tried editing the registry over the network, but the same happens - good with regedit, bad with regedt32.
No logging is being done to the event logs, and I have no explanation on why one registry editer can see the values, and another cannot.
Any ideas?
Thank you.
