This ought to be a no brainer, but correct solution has eluded me. The business has a need to use their local analog line to periodically forward their incoming calls to a third number with the carrier call forwarding. To activate the call forwarding, they dial 72#, get 3 beeps from the carrier and dial the number that they want to forward the calls to. I programmed a line appearance button, but have been unable to get the 72# to pass on out. I checked the line with a butt set and it goes out just fine, but through the system it wont go. I tried to build a short code in the ARS, without success. I just need to press the line appearance button, dial 72# and have it send out 72# What am i missing here??

Huh, I've done this without much issue. What happens when you dial 72#? Do you see the system dialing 72# over the line with monitor or ssa?

I used to be an ACE. Now I'm just an Arse.

From a line appearance it is still internal dial tone, and it holds your digits in limbo until the Await Dial Tone timer expires, which seems to interfere with using telco forward and unforward codes.

I had to set up a Dr.'s office with a line appearance for Line 1 (no ring), and 2 Dial buttons, with 72#,,,,5551212 for forwarding and 73#,,,,5551212 for unforwarding. They press the Line button, then they press the forward or unforward button

No need for a line appearance call at all
simply program short codes to correctly dial these feature codes on the correct line

Do things on the cheap & it will cost you dear

When we do this, we put the target line into a unique group and point a dial shortcode at the group. Works great without a line appearance. You can build ARS to overflow to this line for normal outbound traffic - although in this is often unnecessary, as the line is busiest with inbound traffic

Thank you for your thoughts and responses. I will be back on site in the morning and will apply some of your suggestions. Thank you

Shortcodes work just fine as well, in our case it was a busy Dr.'s office, and of course it's the first line that needs to be forwarded, and the line that all the incoming calls hit first. They needed to be able to see when the line was idle to do the forwarding.
