Hey,

We had a user log on the their machine with "username@bob.com" but to the local mahcine, ie choosing "this computer" as opposed to the domain. Their normal username is just "username" to login.

The thing is though, they were put on the network, but logged on locally. They could get internet and mail etc.

Any ideas?

Not that its a problem. Just odd.

Sorry,

XP Pro, 2003 domain.

Why is it odd?

They are connected to a router. The router is connected to the internet.

The server's DHCP server, if used, will issue an IP.

The server's DNS server, if used, will service DNS queries.

The workstation can even use Domain resources in most cases. It may get prompted for Domain credentials, but a Net use should succeed.

Ok,

I just thought it was....

When we run reports on users and machines we get odd results, eg the user shows up as "username@bob.com" and username.

But I suppose it does make sense.

Thanks bcastner,

Brett

If the user uses UPN (User Principle Name, which will be in the form <username>@DNSDomainName), he is logging on to the domain. When you type the UPN in the User Name box in the Logon window, Log On to will be grayed out automatically (will be grayed out as soon as you type the @ character).
