Hi;
I am an experienced crystal report designer but have little or no experience with ASP and web design...I am working on a new project with another group within a company.
On my previous project, we successfully built a web enabled series of Crystal reports using version 8.0 Professional and the WCS. the data was from one centrally located database and all reports could be built from suitably linked tables and calculations.
But this new project is very different but of course they want the same web functionality as the other group.
some of the difficult problems are:
1. there are 6 independant but identical databases for which all reports must address (they don't want one report for each site.) with a central location where the reports are to be run from.
2. Currently they run the reports from a VB app...they want to eliminate the bloat/updating problems of the app but they want to access the reports via an app generated browser window..but they don't want to re-login since they already have done it once in the VB app
3. the same reports should be available to other users who should not have to have the VB App to view the reports (eg. CEO's of the company or customer service)
4. then the issue of security enters into fray.
My question is: can Crystal Enterprise handle these issues? or is it better to develope your own approach with the RDC and WCS of version 8.5 and ASP.
Discussion and guidance on this matter is much appreciated...This is my first time in this forum but I am regular in CR - General & Formula forums...I am amazed at the spirit of co-operation that exists here frankly.
