I believe that MS SPS's search functionality is based on SQL where can a find some comprehensive tips on searching in MS SPS - indicators and parameters, etc for effective search results?
 
the SPS SDK contains some information on how SPS contruct its SQL statements. i've been using it lately to run searches in VB interfaces and in trying to modify the SPS search
