I am getting a persistent ORA-600 [17575] error during a homogeneous SAP system copy with Oracle 8.1.7. . This error occurs after having successfully restored the source system data onto the target system. I then try to 'convert the <SID>' to make the DB think it is now called the new system name. This is done by creating a new controlfile with the locations of the new files.

After the line 'CREATE CONTROLFILE SET DATABASE "<SID>" RESETLOGS ARCHIVELOGS .....' line, I receive the ORA-600 error message , along with the helpful info 'CREATE CONTROLFILE FAILED'.

Any help appreciated.

How are you creating the control file?
Are you use control file to trace then cleaning it to create the new control file?

Every time I have done a HSC and recieved this error it was caused by typo's.

Did you copy the initSID.ora from the original instance?

Make sure that the references in the initSID.ora matches your new instance.
