I need to get some info on the ENV and Socket modules that are defined in perl.

How can I be sure that perl is finding these modules?

I have some perl code that includes the following lines.

use lib "$ENV{HOME}";

What does this do. How I can list the Environment defined in this module.

I have another chunk of code that gets a socket.

$nRet = socket(SOCK, PF_INET, SOCK_STREAM, $Protocol);

When I run this program from the command prompt the socket is created and the program continues. However when I call the program from a Java application I don't get the socket connection. I suspect the program can't find the socket module. How can I make it find this module.

Thanks for all of your help.
