Howdy -

I will be installing a router with a LAN IP soon and will need to route some subnets over it instead of the Internet. (partner intranet). The router will handle all nating and return traffic, I just need to get the traffic to it instead of my PIX (goes out to the Internet).

Is there any way to set the routing on the PIX to redirect the traffic from a subnet (or 2) back to the inside router?

The only other way I know to do this without additional hardware is to load a route on everyone's computer to route to the internal router for those subnets.

Any thoughts are welcome.

Thanks!
:) -Andrew

Well the PIX is not yet able to route packets back on the same interface they arrived. But, since there will be an internal router, I would use the router as the default gateway for all PCs and have the router decide where to send the traffic, either to the PIX or to the partners network.

Interesting thought, thanks for the idea.

It's just a temporary install for now, but if we go with it full-time, I'll see about that configuration.

I'm assuming a cisco router can route back on the inside interface.... Something to ask in the cisco forums too.

Thanks again.

The router can route packets back and forth from any interface without any problems, that's what they are design for. Only the PIX has this restriction.
