system: SuSe 10.0 loaded from downloaded dvd image.
kde desktop.
i am getting an "Authorization Dialog" box popping up every couple of minutes, for "something" looking for authorization for our proxy server. The only thing open is a Konsole shell window running top. the only things in the system tray are klipper and the clock.

is there some way to find out what process or app is requiring this authorization or spawned this dialog?
i have tried looking with top and kpmd but nothing seems obvious.

I don't know Suse, but it sounds like a background service such as an updated package watcher or an NTP service trying to get out to the Internet.

yes but i would not expect any background or system daemons to ask for auths thru a kde session...
and as i said before...no watcher...ntp is not running...

i guess i should restate the question as "is there a way to trace what process or subprocess is controlling or spawning a given child window?

found the culprit.....kwebdesktop
somehow it got turned on for rendering background images???
right-click on background -> configure desktop ->background -> advanced options -> background program......

it finally showed up in the process table as kio_http ....

hope this helps someone else.
