Hi,

Not sure if anyone else will have come across this problem but here goes.

I have written a VB 2008 application that creates word 2003 and word 2007 documents. The problem is only some machines can open the word 2007 documents in 2003 through my application. The word 2007 documents can be opened in word 2003 outside of my application and as far as I know all the machines have the compatability packs loaded.

I have got around the problem by saving all the documents in word 97 -2003 format but am curious as to what the problem may be and if anyone else has encountered it.

Are you getting any specific error messages?

Microsoft released a office converter that allowed 2003 to open 2007 documents. There are two problems the fist is that as I understand it the converter has to be installed and it isn't just some update a person will automatically get if they even update. The second is that it appears to have some harsher system requirements than 2003 itself has and can cause problems on older computers. Basically it comes down to some people have it installed and others for one reason or another do not.
