For the last couple days, every time I open QuarkXpress it crashes within several seconds. I don't get time to type in half a line before I get "Application Error" and everything disappears!

MY DEADLINE IS TOMORROW!!! If I don't get these Quark documents FINISHED I'll be fired!

What do I do? My job, my life, is entirely dependent on getting it to stop crashing so I can get some work in! I can't do the documentation in anything but QuarkXpress. And I can't do anything in the 1 or 2 seconds I get before it crashes again! It crashed SEVERAL HUNDRED TIMES today!!

What do I do??? I was told to try throwing away the preferences file, but I don't know what that means. I can't find a preferences file anywhere.

This is my only income. If I lose this job, it's all over for me. Please help!!

The quark preference file is in the Quark Application folder called 'XPRESS PREFERENCES' throw this into the trash. When you reopen Quark it will create a new one. If you can't fix it in 20 call someone who can.

Thanks. I found the file and deleted it. The next time I went into QuarkXpress I got in a whole 15 minutes of work before it crashed. But now it's back to crashing within a second or two after I get into it. I delete the preferences file, get into QuarkXpress, it crashes. I delete the preferences file, get back into QuarkXpress, it crashes. That's happened several dozen times this morning.

If I don't get this darn program fixed this weekend, I'm fired.

Why is it crashing every couple seconds??? What do I do???

Not sure if this will help, but check your extensions. I once had two sets of extensions, QX tools and something similar by another company. They conflicted and made Quark crash. Redundant question as well, but are you running 4.1?

Which version of Quark are you running + which OS?? If you can't fix it in 20 call someone who can.

How would I check my extensions? And yes it is 4.1. For Win NT 4.0.

It turns out it's only the one file that crashes Quark, the huge, almost finished file. The others seem to work fine. I'm in the midst of redoing everything from day 1 because the file won't let me copy it into another file. I wasn't even sure if that would do any good or if I'd be copying over whatever is causing it to crash. Moot point, though, since it didn't work.

I think my job is probably toast. :-(

And I liked this job, too. You can't often say that. And the job market is worse than flat right now. The jobs just aren't out there.
