Does anyone know if I can print to a printer attached to a WIN2K server from RHAS2.1 using the Windows drivers rather than the Linux drivers?

Basically I have used Samba to create a shared printer which is accessible on the Linux machine but when we try to print word or xml documents we come a cropper. We can get over the pdf documents by using pdf2ps facility, but cannot seem to get over the other issues.

We are using the lprng printing system as this is what comes with RHAS2.1, but I understand that CUPS supports this type of printing.

Has anyone had any experience of what I am going through?!

Any help would be much appreciated.

I don't know if you can use the windows drivers, I don't think you can, but CUPs does have extensive support for different printers, many of them are based on ghostscript to convert the documents to postscript.

I have also had great success using drivers from "turboprint" in germany. Google for it.

I would remove lprng and go with cups.
You'd be much happier IMHO.

Eric - I gave it a shot, but you need cups to run turboprint.

Marsd - I think you are right, this is going to be the easiest way in the long run I guess. Do you have any instructions/information on the best way of doing this?
