I read some where that it is possible to setup a serial modem using the setserial command. This I believe allows one to set the /dev/ttys value and allocate the I/O Port.

If this is the case where can I find more information on the topic and would I need to redo the kernel.

Lastly is there any other way by which I can acheive the same end but more easily.
What I've found that works for my 3COM ISA PNP modem is to use:

setserial /dev/ttyS2 auto_irq autoconfig

this will set my modem to Com3.
