A startup company trying to use a database called ACT is giving me troubles. The application is installed on 3 workstations. Data is stored on a server (this data is really for sales contacts).

Some workstations are not permitted "access" to the stored data on the NT server.

dcomcnfg does not even show the application installed on the server.

The workstatrions are running either w95 or w98.

When access is denied to the workstation then the workstation has to import the database.

What do I have to do to simply have the databse files be viewed from the server through network neighborhood???

I found this post a little late, so I don't know if you have solved your problem. If you haven't try the following:

1. Make sure all workstations have full access to the database folder on the Server
2. I'm presuming that the ACT! database is a shared database with everyone being a user with proper access privilages.
3. Each workstation needs to have a mapped drive to the ACT! folder on the Server.
4. Each workstation "Default Locations" for the database needs to be mapped to the folder on the Server
Note: In ACT! go to "Edit", "Preferences" select "General" tab and look for "Default Locations"
Additional information can be found in the ACT! User Manual or on the ACT! CD under ACT! Administrator. Look for setting up a multi-user ACT! Database.

Good Luck
MO
