Does anyone know of a server sizing tool that can be used for new a SharePoint server?

Thanks in advance,
Debi

Do you mean implementing a SAN or something. Could you give more detail on what you mean by "server sizing"? Ashley L Rickards

We've never used Sharepoint before. We are planning to start and they asked me to recommend a server to purchase. I have the disk space sizing part under control. I need to size the processor and memory.

Thanks,
Debi

Hi Debi,
This will be our first also. The server we setup is Compaq DL380, 2Gb RAM. The OS or C: drive is 100 gig raid 0+1 an e: drive with 212 gig raid 5. Depending on the document collection you might also want to purchase a DCI server(dedicated content indexer) to increase performance.
Also, you will want to be running Exchange 2000 but it will work with 5.5. With 5.5 though you will run into ActiveX which will slow down your dashboard performance.

That's all I have now, I'll let you know how my install goes next week. Ashley L Rickards

We just moved SPS in production 1 May.
Our server is a Dell 2550 with 2 z 933 Mhz PIII and 1 GB ram. There is 2 Qlogic 2200F cards used to connect to the SAN and the data is on an StorageTek SVA9500.

Performance is good at least compared to our pre-SPS system.

Biggest problem at the moment is that there is no support from Veritas for the backup except if we downgrade to BackupExec.
