Quark has a simple solution to this problem: purchase either another version of the program, in the appropriate language, or buy the Big Brother, QuarkXPress Passport, which handles multiple language versions.
I would suggest looking into a spelling utility program, such as SpellCatcher from Casady & Greene (on the Mac platform, at least) which will support foreign language dictionaries. (I'm sure I've seen Spanish, but I don't recall whether I've seen Portuguese.) This program can work interactively with your Quark text to check your selections, but you may have to adjust your working habits since it won't perform exactly the way Quark's spell-checker would.
The other way I can picture this working would be to move back and forth between a word processer (for example, Nisus, WordPerfect, or MS Word) if it supports a good set of language dictionaries. That might mean cutting a pasting a lot but you could at least automate some of the spell-checking. You'd have to check what was available.
