Does anybody know if with windows update there is a way of marking a critical update as not to be installed (much the same way as you can with the non-critical updates).
I have an older Win98 system on which I am reminded that I have critical updates *every day*. The update which it is trying to install is the DirectX9.b update. If I go through the update process it appears to install properly, but sure as anything the same update pops up the next day.
I've tried to install that particular update manually by downloading from the DirectX site, and when I do that, the installer pops up an error message that the package can't be installed because my CPU is not supported.
So therein lies the problem... I know that I can't install the update, but yet windows update wants to install it each and every day. Needless to say it is getting beyond the point of being annoying.
Any suggestions appreciated.
