I know it has been discussed a bazillion times...

Customer installed new IPO500V2 running R7 in Essential IPOffice mode. Within the 90 day window, I upgraded to R8 and then reverted back to 7 because 8 had a couple of critters. So, now that 8 is better - can I upgrade to 8 and remain in Essential mode without an Essential license, or will it revert to Basic/Quick/Muppet mode? FYI - when starting the upgrade process, it says that I have license 5.
Thanks!

My question is, how did you even upgrade to 8 from 7 without a license in the 1st place? Even after 8 was announced to allow this within the grace period, I've never been able to upgrade up to 8 without the system saying I needed a license

I proved myself wrong just now, but you will need to revert down to quick vers. However my question still stands then. How were you able to upgrade to 8 in IPO Mode without requiring a license?

you are proving yourself very wrong , forget quick or anything else.IPO mode and do the following.

remember the admin pass word in quick mode is password, not the default you are used to.

7.031 make a call within 90 day grace period ,

upgrade to R8.018 or later virtual licence created , issue solved.

I am currently at a Customer site where they've been using their system. Upgraded it to 8.0.42 and a virtual license was not created. They were previously on 7.0.278401 patch

Also forgot to mention, before upgrade showed "Licensed" - 255. IPO does not like me

Thats normal in upgrade grace period,

did you make the call external and are you still within the 90 days?

I have never had an issue starting with R7, making an outside call, upgrading to R8.0.18 or higher within the grace period. I have multiple systems that now show Valid 5, needed 5 now that the 90 day period is over. All show the valid essential virtual license. Hopefully I have not jinxed myself.

Montyzummer, I understand that's normal during grace period, that's why I mentioned it. Plus yes several outgoing as well as internal calls were made prior to upgrade. Again, this is a Customer who has been using their system for only about a month now, and yes this system was purchased brand new from a valid distributer

This is why Avaya are still issuing free of charge upgrade licences, in some sites the virtual licence thing doesn't work, despite 8.0.42 being specifically released to solve this. I have mentioned it a few times on here but as always with this subject people have a hard time accepting it :)

Oh believe me, I expect it coming from a Avaya. It's finding the exact thread in a timely manner. It's not you, it's me pressed for time.
