I have a Deskjet 640 and it stopped printing in color ... only the black portion is printing. Can one tell if the color ink cartridge is empty by holding it up to the light? Thanks.

Why not just go buy a new cartridge?

Maybe it's empty, Maybe it's dried up, Maybe it's clogged.

You can't really tell by looking. The cartridge isn't just a plastic box. There is a "sponge" inside to keep the ink next to the print head. This makes it look like there is still ink inside, when it is just a dried up "sponge".
